Tyla (South Africa)
Popiano icon

Born in Johannesburg in 2002, Tyla Laura Seethal began making a name for herself in 2023 as the new voice of ‘popiano’, a clever mix of amapiano, R&B and Afrobeats. Discovered with ‘Getting Late’ (2019), she exploded onto the scene with ‘Water’ (2023), the first African solo track to exceed 1 billion Spotify streams in 2025, propelled to seventh place on the Billboard Hot 100 and a TikTok phenomenon (446 million views). The youngest African woman to win a Grammy (2024, Best African Music Performance), she followed up with an eponymous album (March 2024) that racked up 1.5 billion streams and reached No. 24 on the Billboard 200. Winner of 31 awards (SAMA, MTV VMA, BET, EMAs) out of 105 nominations, Tyla has been busy performing on stage, from her world tour to hosting the Kids' Choice Awards. In the summer of 2025, she unveiled ‘Bliss’, a post-apocalyptic music video praised by Vogue, and continues to attract over 24,000 new listeners per month on Spotify. A global pop icon, she embodies a young, ambitious and irresistibly global Africa.
