Daughter of prominent parents in Rabat and a graduate of the École des Hautes Études Commerciales de Paris (HEC), Nadia Fettah Alaoui embodies Moroccan meritocracy. She also has a real talent for finance. She began her career at Arthur Andersen, then managed a private equity fund for AfricInvest, before joining the Saham insurance company. In March 2018, she negotiated the sale of Saham Finances to South Africa's Sanlam for €920 million, a masterstroke that earned her the title of CEO of the Year at the Africa CEO Forum in Abidjan a few days later. Her rigour and expertise match the skills that King Mohammed VI seeks to promote in order to ‘renew and enrich positions of responsibility’. In 2019, with no party affiliation, she was appointed Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Air Transport and Social Economy (TATAES), a challenging role in the midst of the Covid crisis. She joined the National Rally of Independents (RNI) in 2019. At 53, she has been at the helm of the Ministry of Economy and Finance since 2021, a key and sensitive role. As budget chief, she is steering modernisation reforms, including social security coverage for all citizens, and addressing the kingdom's financial challenges. Lastly, she chairs the Mohammed VI Investment Fund, established in 2020.
