Fally Ipupa (DRC)
Eagle of Kinshasa
At 47, this Kinshasa born-and-raised Afropop star has charted his own course. Raised in the Bandalungwa neighbourhood, fiefdom of the legendary soukous group Wenge Musica, he spent six years with Quartier Latin under the wing of his mentor Koffi Olomidé, before launching his solo career in 2006 with Droit Chemin, which went gold within a month! Several albums later, mixing Lingala, French, and English, Fally has won numerous awards at the MTV Africa Music Awards and the Trace Urban Music Awards. Most of his albums feature international stars like M. Pokora and Booba. The result is chart-topping Afropop rumba, a mix of songs about heartbreak and pulsating rhythms. He has 20 million followers on social media. Fally sells out the most prestigious venues in Europe and creates pandemonium when he performs in his home country.
