Côte d'Ivoire has entered a new phase in the deployment of renewable energy with the official launch of Ferké Solar, a photovoltaic power plant developed by PFO Énergies, a subsidiary of PFO Africa.

The cornerstone ceremony was held on 2 February in the Tchologo region in the north of the country, in the presence of several dignitaries, including Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly, Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, and Clyde Fakhoury, CEO of PFO Africa.

A GROUND-BREAKING PROJECT

Following an agreement between the Ivorian government and PFO Énergies, the future power plant will have a capacity of 52 MWp and cover an area of 70 hectares. When it becomes operational at the end of 2025, it will produce almost 90 GWh of clean energy per year, enough to supply more than 370,000 households. It will also have a significant positive environmental impact, with an estimated reduction of 39,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year.

The project has received funding of 41 billion CFA francs, mobilised by PFO Energies and its institutional partners, in particular the West African Development Bank (BOAD) and the Emerging Africa & Asia Infrastructure Fund (EAAIF). This international support is a sign of the confidence placed in the capacity of PFO Africa to develop and drive sustainable energy infrastructure.

A BOOST FOR THE LOCAL ECONOMY

Beyond its environmental impact, Ferké Solar will contribute to the local economy with the creation of more than 600 jobs during the construction phase. This project is fully in line with Côte d'Ivoire's energy strategy, which has set a target of 45% renewable energy in the energy mix by 2030, in accordance with the commitments made at COP26.

A TURNING POINT FOR IVORIAN SOLAR ENERGY

The Ferké Solar project makes PFO Énergies the first independent Ivorian energy producer to lead a solar project of this scale. The power plant will operate under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).  Through this initiative, PFO Africa confirms its commitment to sustainable energy development, aimed at strengthening the country's energy independence while preserving the environment.
