The recent passing of Amadou only heightens the monumental status of this duo, who made us dance and cry. Amadou & Mariam were joined at the hip, on stage and at home, from the time they met at the Institut des jeunes aveugles (Institute for Young Blind People) in Bamako in the 1970s. Bamako, the capital city, became internationally known with the release of Dimanche à Bamako. Produced by Manu Chao, the album went platinum in France, won a Victoire de la Musique award in 2005 and was nominated for a Grammy the following year. Emblematic figures of a radiant blues style, between pop, rock and funk, Amadou & Mariam had 2.5 million listeners on Spotify in 2024-2025. This touching couple tackled exile, disability and injustice with tender activism and universal appeal. The duo's closeness continues to resonate, particularly through their new single ‘L'Amour à la folie’, which precedes a new album scheduled for release on 24 October 2025. As a final tribute.
